About Us

About DIG Engineering Ltd.

DIG Engineering Ltd. (Davies Integrated Geotechnical Engineering Ltd.) was founded by Ben Davies and Paul Davies (no relation, just coincidence!) to deliver customized, high-quality Geotechnical engineering. Building on the Davies Geotechnical Inc. consulting practice legacy that began in 2001, we stay current with codes, research, and best practices so our work remains industry-leading. We stand behind our responsiveness, clear communication, and the value our investigation, reports, and designs bring to your project.

We’re a well-established Vancouver Geotechnical firm with long-standing relationships across the Lower Mainland, Sea-to-Sky, and throughout B.C. Clients, contractors, and design teams choose us for our practical, cost-effective solutions that work on any specific site, whether that’s creating and drafting a deep excavation and shoring design, dialing in preload/settlement analysis, or determining soil allowable bearing pressures.

DIG Engineering Ltd. and our staff of senior, intermediate, and junior engineers, EITs, and field technologists, are structured to provide the full range of Geotechnical services. At DIG Engineering Ltd. you’ll always have direct access to experienced engineers who can move your project forward in an efficient and cost effective manner. We pride ourselves in maintaining the same engineers on each portion of a project from investigation to occupancy so our team is aware of all the details to ensure the project goes smoothly.

Technical excellence and practical design is a core principle. Our engineers maintain active professional development and internal peer review, and we pair design expertise with efficient field investigation through our in-house WestCoast CPT (CPT/SCPT) operations, tightening the loop between data and decisions.

We’re trusted locally. DIG Engineering is on the City of Delta’s on-call shortlist for geotechnical services, supporting geotechnical emergencies, roads, parks, civic facilities, and utility upgrades with clear, constructible engineering.

What sets us apart?
- Direct access and fast response. A senior engineer answers or calls back the same business day, and stays involved from kickoff to final field review.
- Continuity. The engineer who scopes and designs your project leads the site reviews, supported by junior engineers and field technologists who capture details in real time.
- Buildable outcomes. Clear recommendations, acceptance criteria, and concise memos help teams make timely decisions and keep schedule and budget on track.
- Proven local experience. Thousands of projects across Metro Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, the Sea-to-Sky, and communities throughout B.C.

Our commitment to you: we will meet, or exceed, your expectations for responsiveness, service, clarity, and value. If you’re planning a project in Metro Vancouver or anywhere in B.C., we’d love to help you build on solid ground.

Meet Our Principals

Ben Davies, P. Eng.

Ben Davies, P.Eng., is one of the senior principal Geotechnical engineers at DIG Engineering Ltd. and our in-house CPT/SCPT specialist, operating West Coast CPT since 2014. Recent work spans community and civic projects in Delta (Winskill Aquatic Centre, Hawthorne Park Field House), highrise developments for BC Housing in Vancouver, and commercial/industrial upgrades along the Fraser River. Highlights include major underpinning and deep temporary and permanent shoring/excavation directly beneath the Hastings Street bridge, managed with real-time instrumentation and a strict 5 mm movement threshold where exceedance would have triggered a bridge shutdown.

As a member/contributor of the MMCD Civil Committee for use of recycled aggregates, Ben Davies has been involved in shaping specifications that encourage greater use of recycled aggregates in road construction. Building on this, we prepared a research summary for the District of North Vancouver reviewing recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) and recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), their technical performance, environmental impacts, and pathways for broader adoption outside current MMCD specifications. This work supports a shift toward more resilient, lower-carbon pavements and highlights practical solutions for municipalities looking to integrate circular economy practices into their road networks.

Ben holds a B.ESc. in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Western University. After a winter instructing at Whistler Blackcomb post university in 2011, he joined Davies Geotechnical (no relation to Paul Davies) and has workedal ongside Paul for nearly 14 years. Outside the office you’ll find him on skis or a bike, exploring B.C. and in the outdoors with his young family.

Paul Davies, P.Eng.

Paul Davies, P.Eng. is a senior Geotechnical engineer with 35-plus years of working geotechnical experience within the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Paul has fulfilled the roles of Senior Project Designer/Engineer of Record, Expert Witness for legal cases, and company manager overseeing the development of junior and intermediate engineers owning and operating Davies Geotechnical Inc. since 2001. Paul has had the great privilege of working on many interesting and notable projects which include: The Whistler SlidingCenter (for the 2010 Olympics), the Evergreen Line, over 50 high rise buildings with deep parkades (the deepest to date extending 93 feet below the ground surface).

When not at work Paul enjoys the outdoors, camping, fishing, and boating.  Paul is also an avid musician in the process of perfecting his playing the electric guitar and electric bass.
